ALT Drag versus Copy, Paste (three week project)
Assignment brief:
Appropriate the mechanics of a ready-made and generate
geometry that takes advantage of the multiple.
Your model must be
based on an original that you physically have in-hand. Both the original and
the duplicate will be presented together.
Learning
outcomes:
Students will use modeling skills obtained through previous
exercises to model an exact copy of a “found”
piece of fashion jewelry.
Students will have better understanding of the pros and cons of a digital
workflow by
duplicating an existing piece of jewelry.
Skills
list:
Advanced Rhino
modeling techniques.
Utilize generative
geometry tools to create wearable work.
Think modular parts to solve
design/wear-ability problems.
Concept:
Duplicate
and iterate a modular, wearable piece.
Research:
Do market research by visiting the
jewelry section of H&M, Madewell and The Limited. Find your source
object. Measure and model using your calipers.
Consider stretch bracelets or stacking pieces.
Questions:
How
does ownership play a role in production?
What impact does
fashion jewelry have on one-of-a-kind work?
How can symmetry
solve wear-ability issues??
What role does identity play in your piece?
What role
does ownership play in copying and pre-made piece.
Expectations:
Model
a copy of found piece of jewelry. Layout drawings are expected. All layout drawings should be printed in
full
color on 8.5 x 11 paper and turned in on the day the project is due.
